Obituary of Geraldine L. Merrier

Geraldine L. Merrier, of Duluth passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 in Solvay Hospice House, with her loving family at her side. Geri was born July 9, 1933 in Duluth to Einar E. and Mabel M. (Kesty) Holmberg. She grew up in Esko and graduated from Esko High School in 1951. Geri married Theodore "Ted" Merrier on Aug. 1, 1952 and together they raised nine children. She worked for 23 years at ISD 709 in Food Service at several Duluth schools, retiring in 1996 to the "Lake" which she loved so much. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Genevieve; two brothers, Steven Kaanta and Ronald Kaanta; and a grandson, Brian Fernholz. Geri is survived by Ted, her loving husband of 64 years; their children, Mike (Sheila), Jeanne Leslie, Glen (Pam), Lee (Dave) Fernholz, Jerome (Linda), Linda (Kim) Hanson, Joel (Paula) Donna (Paul) Rodriquez, Yvonne (Rob) Ringstad; 21 grandchildren; nine grandchildren; and a brother Dennis (Yung OK) Kaanta; a niece and three nephews. Her kind spirit, wonderful cooking and generous heart will be missed by those who were blessed to have known her. A private family service is planned for Sept. 24, 2016 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Duluth, with burial at the Fort Snelling Veterans Cemetery. Sign the Guestbook
