Gene Huffman

Obituary of Gene Huffman

Gene Huffman, of Duluth, the best husband, father, grandfather and friend passed from our lives on Sept. 11, 2016 at the age of 78. Gene was born on July 5, 1938, to Liz and Frank Huffman. Morgan Park was his home and he always said he was proud to be a "wildcat"-once a wildcat, always a wildcat. He graduated from MPHS in 1958, and went on to join the Army for two years. He then married his high school sweetheart, Sharon (Ronn) in 1961. He worked for U.S. Steel until they closed and then for Twin Ports Amusement for 30 years. Gene spent his summers at the cabin at East Bass Lake where wonderful friends helped mold his and his family's lives-wonderful times and wonderful people. If there was ever a paradise on earth, the cabin was it. The family and friends in his life were exceptional. Each one was special to him. Also special were his black labs- three or four of them were named "Bingo." Gene's best experiences included coaching his three sons in sports, deer hunting at the lake, fishing at Rowan Lake in Canada, hunting geese in Canada and trips to Florida and Arizona. North Shore Estates (St. Eligius) was a great place for him because of the wonderful caring staff. He would hug them and call them "sunshine" and "his girls" and always wanted to take them to the cabin for a beer. Gene was a special person with a great love of life who cared for his family and friends more than anything. We all know that he is up in heaven-hunting or fishing with a black lab named "Bingo" by his side. Gene is survived by his wife, Sharon of 54 years; sons, Brad (Lori), Bob (Shelly), Dan (Tracy); sister, Jackie (Bob) Johnson; grandchildren, Ashlee (Andrew), Jake, Danny, Makayla, Bella, Liam, Adalyn, Carson, Morgan, Paige and his special grandson, Bryce.
