Obituary of Charlotte Marie Holmgren Burrell

Charlotte Marie Holmgren Burrell, age 93, passed on peacefully September 30, 2016. She was born in Duluth, resided in Edina, later in St. Louis Park. She was predeceased by husband Warren Philip Burrell; parents, Gustaf E. Holmgren and Clara Pederson Holmgren; brothers, Kenneth and Larry Holmgren; brother-in-law, Russell Lundin. She is survived by son, Paul (Sharon) Burrell and daughters, Linda (Alan) Swanson and Gail (Robert) Borchers; sisters, Nancy Lundin, Joanne (Don) Becker; sisters-in-law, Ona Holmgren and Connie Holmgren Heise and many nieces and nephews. She was blessed by grandchildren Karin (Jeff) Shippar, Maija (Jon) Martin, Henry and Isaac Borchers and three great-grandchildren. Char graduated from Duluth Junior College, then worked as a chemist for U.S. Steel and General Mills. Later she attended the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis, studying biology and ancient history. She had many talents including knitting and sewing. For many years she taught yoga and exercise classes. Char served on the Advisory Council for the Edina Senior Center, was an active member of Friends of the Edina Library and was a longtime member of Colonial Church of Edina. Char was a life-long learner and an avid reader. She loved the beauty of outdoors and walking. Char was gracious and she truly will be missed. A celebration of Char’s life will take place at Park Shore Apartments, 3663 Park Center Blvd, St. Louis Park on Sat., Nov. 5, 1:30 – 3 pm. with program at 2 pm. Because Char had great compassion for those affected by memory loss, she would be pleased to have memorials sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. Private interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
