Obituary of Anne Gilman Scott

Anne Gilman Scott was born in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Charles and Louise Thomas Gilman, which gave her an American lineage that traced her roots to Nicholas Gilman, a signer of the U.S. Constitution and Captain Cook of the Mayflower, a heritage she cherished. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947, and received a dietetics degree from the University of Michigan Hospital in 1948. She married Daniel John Scott, God's greatest gift to her, in 1948. They lived in St. Louis, MO, Jackson MS, and Kansas City, KS, before coming to Minnesota in 1955.Their union blessed them with Jane Kalin (Ron), Joanne Zard (Mark), and Daniel Scott, and later brought Elizabeth Anne, Michael (Beth), and Diane (Adam), Brian (Laura), Adam, and Allison (Casey), her beloved grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A believer in Community Service, she was active in Camp Fire where she was honored with their highest honor, the Gulick Award. She was president and longtime member of the board of the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, was a Junior Great books leader, and was active for over 70 years in the P.E.O. sisterhood, Chapter BQ in MN. She served as State P.E.O. Convention Chair in 1975, and as treasurer of the 1993 convention. She was president of chapters in MO, KS, and MN. She was a 40+ year election judge in Crystal. She was always a very active member of the Episcopal Church. She started pre-school Sunday school programs at St. Andrew's Church in Minneapolis and Church of the Epiphany, Plymouth. She served in many capacities for women's activities in local and statewide efforts. She was particularly pleased with the Lenten Meditation booklet she compiled with parish participation at Epiphany. She was known for her Scottish Tea, which she presented at the Episcopal Church Home Christmas Tea for many years, and at the Kirkin' of the Tartans at Epiphany near St. Andrew's birthday. She even edited a Scottish Tea cook book! She will be remembered for her many many hand written notes and thank-yous. Services will be held at Church of the Epiphany (Episcopal) in Plymouth. She requested no flowers (leave them growing!), but memorials may be given to Church of the Epiphany (4900 Nathan Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55442), the Episcopal Church Home Foundation (490 E. Lynhurst Ave, St. Paul, MN 55104), or to any of the organizations with which you knew and worked with Anne.
