Obituary of Andrea Yvonne Monahan

Andrea Yvonne "Sis" Monahan, 85, of Duluth, Minn. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. Andrea was born in Minneapolis to Edwin A. and Agnes (Spillum) Smith on Aug. 8, 1931. She grew up in Knife River, Minn. and attended Two Harbors High School. Andrea was an avid bowler and league champion in 1961. She also loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and sewing. Andrea had a 35-year career with AT&T, starting in 1952 as a telephone operator and dispatch specialist. She was also an active member of the Communications Workers of America and Telephone Pioneers of America. Andrea was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Marilyn "Sugar" Musselman and James H. Smith; granddaughter Clara Monahan; and Stanley H. Gilbertson. She is survived by sons Howard (Brenda) Monahan and Kelly Monahan; grandchildren Liam, Benjamin and Emily Monahan; and siblings Eugene (Alice) Smith and Barbara Peterson. Special thanks to Gene and Alice Smith, Peggy Pickar and Lorraine Johnson for their friendship and support through the years and to the kind and helpful staff at Edgewood Manor and St. Luke's Hospital. VISITATION: 9 a.m. gathering of family and friends until the 10 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., 218-624-5200. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors, Minn.
