Obituary of Clinton H. Martenson

Clinton "Marty" H. Martenson, 87, of Duluth passed away Oct. 26, 2016, in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born to Peter and Anna Martenson on the family farm in Long Prairie, Minn. on Dec. 24, 1928. His birthday remained an important part of all of our Christmas celebrations. Marty was a man of deep faith, and these values guided all areas of his life. He worked for MN Power for 34 years in Long Prairie, Bovey, Aurora, Eveleth, and Duluth, retiring from the Right of Way Department in 1986. He also was a member of the National Guard, serving as Company Commander in Eveleth, retiring after 31 years of service. He was a dedicated family man, and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were blessed by his interest and encouragement in all of their pursuits. He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, serving in many areas of their ministry over the past 48 years and a past member of Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Carl, Clifford, and Harding; his sisters, Ethel, Florence, Bernice, and Marlys. Marty is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha "Marge"; his daughters, Sandy (Lynn) Mass and Patti Martenson; grandchildren, Tricia (Mike) Keily, Christopher Carey, Nicholas Carey, and Peter (Tina) Martenson; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that he looked forward to seeing each year at the family reunion. He will also be missed by many friends from University for Seniors, square dancing, and traveling. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Oct. 29, in Concordia Lutheran Church, 2501 Woodland Avenue, Duluth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Concordia Lutheran Church or CHUM.
