Obituary of Sue Evans

Evans, Sue G. Sue passed from this life October 28, 2016. She was sixty-six years old and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January. Sue was born in Minneapolis and raised in small towns on the southwestern fringe of the city. As a young mother she was unable to finish high school, but she persevered, earned her GED and then a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She went to work at the Chrysalis Center For Women and after five years there, started a private practice as a therapist. A few years later she received her master’s degree from St. Mary’s. In her nearly forty year career as a therapist, Sue helped people deal with issues concerning chemical dependency, sexuality, sexual abuse, eating disorders, trauma and PTSD. As a cofounder of the Midwest Center For EMDR Training and Therapy she helped train other therapists to better serve clients. As a volunteer in the EMDR Human Assistance Program she traveled the country, training and helping others. She was especially involved in the New Orleans area after Katrina, making numerous trips there as part of the Therapy for Therapists Program. Sue loved to travel and was especially fond of anything involving sun and water, whether it was relaxing at her cabin near Danbury, WI, going whale watching in Cape Cod, and the Baja coast or scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef. She is survived by her loving daughter, Michelle (Greg); grandchildren, Travis and Chessa; brother, John (Geri) and her sister, Joan (Sonja), who took such loving care of her the past months. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and by her close friends and business partners, Susan Schaefer and Lindsay Nielsen, and by her close friend of 47 years, Dave Rissi. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Evans and her sisters, Marianne, Alyce and Nancy. Sue passed as she had lived, with sparkle in her eyes, magic in her heart and a smile on her lips. A celebration of life, open to all, will be held Friday, November 4th, 5:30 pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave S., Edina.
