Obituary of Dennis Henry, “Animal”, “Denny” Thompson

Dennis Henry "DT", "Animal", "Denny" Thompson, Sr., 73, of Saginaw, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 in St. Luke's Hospice. Denny was born in Duluth, on June 1, 1943 to Henry and Helen (Pierce) Thompson. He attended Morgan Park High School. Denny worked as a welder for several area businesses including U.S. Steel, Frasier Shipyards, Hallet Docks and lastly Duluth Steel Fabricators. As a state certified welder, he worked on several local structures including the IMAX building and the Duluth Lift Bridge. Denny loved Elvis and Harley Davidson's. As far as he was concerned, Harley's were the only motorcycles. He also enjoyed trout fishing, deer and partridge hunting and trapping. He was preceded in death by his significant other, Debbie Garthus; daughter, Sara Lee Anderson; and son Dennis "Denny" Henry Thompson Jr. Dennis is survived by his children, Debbie (Brian) Ronding, Cheryl Thompson, Henry "Hank" (Chally) Thompson and Jennifer Thompson; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Nathanial), Dennis III, Chelsey (Tom), Jerica, Nathan, Mason, Jasper, Madawson; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Bill (Jean) and Ron (Pat) as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and beloved dogs. The family wishes to thank the St. Luke's 7 west and hospice staffs for the care they provided Denny. VISITATION: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 in First Memorial Funeral Chapel 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth. Interment will be held at Oneota Cemetery.
