Obituary of Janice Marie Martwig

Janice Marie (Johnson) Martwig, age 81, of Duluth, MN passed away on March 19th, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth with family at her side.

Janice (Jan) was born on April 11th, 1941, in Duluth, MN to John and Amelia Johnson. Jan attended Longfellow Elementary and Denfeld High School. On December 7th, 1963, Jan married Peter L Martwig at Good Shepherd Church. Jan and Pete went on to have three children and Jan stayed home to care for them. Jan spent her free time volunteering at St. James Church and was known for helping with many funeral lunches, pasty sales, and counting money. Her other hobbies included ceramics, cross stitching, bingo, and attending dinners in the area with friends. Jan was a great mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Jan is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Robert and father-in-law George Martwig.

She is survived by her mother-in-law Alice Martwig, Son Kurt Martwig (Tina), and daughters Lisa Thompson (Paul), and Paula Martwig (Mike). Her grandchildren Christopher Martwig, Jayd Zurn, Drake Willis, Sydnie Martwig, Emily Thompson, Abigail Thompson, Alexandra Thompson and great grandchildren Bailey, Lily, Griffyn and Bennett. Also, many special friends and neighbors, including her furry friend Tigger.

Service will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 11am at St. James Church with visitation one hour prior. Jan will be buried at Oneota Cemetery with her husband and parents. We would like to thank the medical professionals at St. Mary’s for caring for Jan and St. James Church for assisting the family with arrangements.
