Obituary of James C. Severson

James C. Severson, 74, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 in Heritage Haven Assisted Living surrounded by his family. He was born on March 2, 1942 in Duluth to Willard and Marjorie Severson. James was a 1960 graduate from Central High School and on June 15, 1962 he married Cynthia Christiansen. Together they had a son and two daughters. James went on to serve the Navy for four years as a submarine mechanic. Following his years in the Navy, James worked at Road Machinery and Supplies in Duluth as a heavy equipment mechanic for many years. James then moved to California and worked at Clairmont Supply until he retired. James truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, traveling, fishing, supervising, and spending time with his family at his cabin in Cotton. James had an uncanny ability to touch the hearts of everyone that he met. James was preceded in his death by his beloved wife, Cynthia; his parents; and his brother, David Nyquist. Left to honor and remember James's love are his three children, James (Penny) Severson, Laura (Arthur) Jensen, and Mary Severson; five grandchildren, J.D (Melissa) Severson, Austin Jensen, Kirsten Jensen, Crystal (Barry) Riback, and Tyler Severson; one great-grandson, Kaiden Riback; a sister, Sandi Johnson and two brothers, Jeffery Nyquist, Daniel Nyquist; brothers-in-law, Edward (Ellen) Christiansen, Gordon Christiansen, and Mark (Lauren) Christiansen; many nieces and nephews. The Severson family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Heritage Haven Assisted Living for their attentiveness and loving care. A celebration of his life will be held at the place he loved most, East Bass Lake this summer. Following that he will be interned at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
