Obituary of Mary Eleanor (Daley) Meyer
Meyer, Mary Eleanor Daley entered the world on July 27, 1936 and left the world on February 22, 2023, during a fierce storm that seemed to mirror her strength and tenacity. She was born in Slayton, MN, and grew up in Cass Lake, MN. Mary was a graduate of the College of St. Benedict, where she forged lifelong friendships that were cherished until the end of her life. Mary was a woman of many talents, and her career spanned teaching English at Archbishop Murray (now Hill-Murray) to journalism, where she wrote for the White Bear Press and the Hudson Star-Observer. Over the years, she worked various jobs, but her real passion was in volunteering in her community and church. She enjoyed volunteering at the library, reading at St. Paul's Monastery and helping at the East Side Learning Center, where she tutored students in reading. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, John. She is survived by her children, Bridget (Joe) Arms, Meg (John) Ellefson, and Dan (Jenalisa) Meyer, who will miss her greatly. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Kate, Ellie, John, Lucy, Eddie, Davy, Katie and Nick. Additionally, Mary is survived by her brother Pat Daley, and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the caring staff at St. Andrew's Village and the HealthPartners hospice team who supported and cared for her over the last few months. A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota on 1979 Old Hudson Road, St. Paul on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at noon (visitation followed by service and lunch). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the East Side Learning Center (740 York Avenue, St. Paul), the College of St. Benedict or St. Paul's Monastery.
