Jean Froid

Obituary of Jean Elaine (Miles) Froid

Born 11/17/1919 - Died 2/6/2023

Survived by three children (Jon Froid, Leslie Clipper, Jeffrey Froid); three grandchildren (Cynthia Froid, Amy Moechnig, Gregg Magnusson); six great-grandchildren (Edward Jirele, Wallace Jirele, Samuel Jirele, Savannah Moechnig, Isabela Moechnig, Lonn Moechnig); sister Barbara Zima (101 years old) and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by husband Aridell Froid and parents Herbert and Una Miles.

Jean enjoyed the simple things in life like a sweet roll and cup of coffee on her porch, picnics at Minnehaha Falls, and ice cream and concerts at Lake Harriet. A fabulous cook with a witty sense of humor, she also loved music and sang in the Hennepin Ave Methodist Church Choir with her mother in her early years. She was also a member of the a cappella choir at Roosevelt High School where she graduated in 1938. This is where she met her high school sweetheart and husband “Dell” Froid, with whom she was married for 60 years until his death in 2008.

In her early years, she enjoyed family vacations on Lake Superior, and would spend summers visiting her grandparents in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her sister. Later in life she enjoyed trips to England, Japan and various adventures on the West Coast, New Mexico and Chicago, IL.

Jean worked at JC Penney in the lingerie department for nearly 40 years, and lived in the same house in Richfield for over 70 years, only moving out after breaking a hip at 97 years old.

Despite growing up during the Depression, and raising her first born child with her mother and sister while her husband was fighting in WWII for the first four years of marriage, Jean was the eternal optimist. She never complained or spoke of anything unpleasant, and was the quintessential “glass half full” type of person.

Her family was the most important thing in her life and she always placed their needs above her own. A gentle soul with an enormous heart, Jean will be remembered for her giving nature, her loving smile, and her delicious rice pudding!

The family would like to thank the staff at Walker Methodist for the care she received while there during the last six years of her life.
