Obituary of Carole Y. Swenson

Carole Y. Swenson, of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully on July 3 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was preceded in death by her parents Palmer and Viola Brettingen, brothers Donald, Marvin and Palmer Jr., sisters Delores and Betty, grandson Dane Swenson, son-in-law Pelle Lindquist, and daughter-in-law Rose Swenson. Carole is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Fred, her daughter Reidun Lindquist Canon (Rod), her sons Dan Swenson, and Chuck Swenson (Ric). She adored her grandchildren Lindsey Swenson Lee (Gordon), Brett Swenson (Diana), Kelsey Bushon (Quentin), Elyse Urchipia (Leo), Kirsten Lindquist Rowe (Scott), and Erik Lindquist (Brittany). Her legacy lives on through nine much loved great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Carole was born on August 19, 1924 in Ogilvie, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, she moved to Minneapolis and in 1945 she and Fred were married. They eventually settled in St. Louis Park, where they were residents for over 65 years. Carole was the consummate hostess of many gatherings at her home. Not only did she have a natural way of making everyone feel welcome, but she delighted them with her superb cooking and baking expertise. As well, she enjoyed playing in numerous bridge clubs, worked almost 40 years at Maid of Scandinavia, and volunteered in many capacities at her church. But, the essence of Carole was her unwavering love of her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Road, St Louis Park on Friday, July 13 at 11 am. A luncheon reception will be held immediately following at the church. Private inurnment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Westwood Lutheran Church Foundation c/o The Carole Y. Swenson Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
