Obituary of Jerome Ronald Amundson

Jerry died on July 5, 2018, from complications of Dementia with Lewy Bodies. He was 84. Jerry was born on June 8, 1934, in Beresford, South Dakota. He graduated from Beresford High School and received a degree in Accounting from the Business School at the University of South Dakota. He served in the Army for two years. Jerry worked for IDS/American Express, now known as Ameriprise, for 35 years in a variety of accounting management positions. Jerry and his wife, Colleen, spent the last several years at the cabin on Kabekona Lake in Laporte, MN and in Green Valley, Arizona. Jerry was actively involved in his community. While working in Minneapolis, he was a leader in the Maple Grove Lions, the Minneapolis Jaycees and the Boy Scouts. Up North after retirement, he was the treasurer and director of the Leech Lake Watershed Association, the Northstar Sportsman's Club and the Kabekona Lake Association. Jerry loved the great outdoors. He went on annual fishing and pheasant hunting trips with his buddies. He played golf. He enjoyed shooting sporting clays, and even started air rifle target shooting in Arizona just a year before he died. Most of all, Jerry loved navigating his pontoon boat around his beloved Kabekona Lake, particularly with his family on the Fourth of July. Jerry is survived by his wife, Colleen Curran; three sons, Bradly (Jody), Craig and David (Dawn); seven grandchildren, Billy (Maria), Abigail, Sarah, Tiffany, Alyssa, James David and Shanna; his great granddaughter, Frankie and his former wife, Carol Amundson. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Klauer; his father, Howard Amundson; his grandmother, Minnie Erickson; his dear aunt, Freda and uncle, Roy Ludwig. An Open House in Memory of Jerry will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, in Edina on August 8 from 4-6pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Laporte, MN on August 11 at 10:30am. A lunch will follow the service at the Third Base in Laporte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Theodore's Church or the Kabekona Lake Association, both in Laporte.
