Obituary of John Elliott Bridgman

John Elliott Bridgman, age 72, of Edina, MN, passed on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at N. C. Little Hospice in Edina. Survived by his daughter Christina (Salvador) Chyerez and their sons Caleb and Marco, siblings George Bridgman, Katherine Bridgman Ellgen (Paul), William Bridgman, Arthur Bridgman (Myrna Packer); nephews and niece Sarah and Clifford Ellgen, Andy, Steven, Scott (Allison) Bridgman, David Bridgman-Packer. Passed on before John were his parents, Donald Elliott Bridgman and Elizabeth (Betty) Urwick Klein Bridgman, and brother Thomas Willson Bridgman. John was born March 16, 1944. John had an investigative nature. He and his five siblings were lovingly given opportunities for education, especially through the Advanced Placement Program initiated by their dad at Edina-Morningside High School, from which John graduated in 1962. He continued his education at Lawrence College in Wisconsin and graduated with a BA in History from the University of Minnesota in 1968. John was a member of the South West Roundtable discussion group and was a discussion guide. As a writer, John was a keen observer of the problems of this world and wrote many letters to the editor that were published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune and other newspapers. With his acute awareness, he could find many four-leaf clovers in a cluster of clovers and be first to spot a bald eagle in the tree while hiking along the Minnesota River. His family and friends enjoyed his humorous comments and puns, and felt his kindness and affection, all of which will be our memories forever. The memorial service will be on Sunday, February 19th at 3:30 p.m. at the Edina Morningside Community Church, United Church of Christ, 4201 Morningside Road, Edina, MN 55416, 952-926-6555. Visitation an hour before the service and reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Memorials for John may be sent to the church or to an organization of your choice.
