Obituary of Dennis Lee Nylen

Dennis Lee Nylen, 77, passed away Jan. 17, 2017 in Essentia Health Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 13, 1939 to Axel and Alana Nylen. Dennis graduated from Duluth Central High School and then went on to become a accomplished musician in bass and bass guitar. He was a member of the Grand Ole Oprey house band, and played with many national stars such as Marty Robbins, Minnie Pearl and Louie Armstrong in the 1950's. He went on to work at the Sterling Motor where he met his wife, Ramona. From there he went on to work at the U.S. Steel Plant for 20 years as a Weigh Master, then as the Security Director at the College of St Scholastica, and then went on to work at St Mary's Hospital in Superior as a security officer. Preceded in death by his son, Patrick J. Nylen. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Ramona; granddaughter, Britany Marn (Jake); brother, Robert Nylen (Michelle); and sisters, Alice Disney, Sandy Baker, Helen Wikblad; brother-in-law, Charles Visina (Geraldine); and many nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 8, in Bayshore Rehabilitation Center in Duluth. Officiated by Father John Petrich. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of MN
