Obituary of Joyce Ann Hurd

Joyce A. Hurd passed into eternal life January 30, 2017 in Eagan, MN. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Beloit, WI. A memorial will be held at Gridley Congregational Church, 1101 Partridge, Beloit, WI on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. Joyce Ann Hauser was born January 15, 1927 in Beloit, WI to Leo and Grace Mulrannin Hauser. She graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1945. She then went on to Whitewater Teachers College, majoring in primary education. She married Donald J. Hurd on August 3, 1947. Together they raised four children: Barbara (Alan) Rehorst; Douglas (Kriem) Hurd; Gregory (Karla) Hurd and Daniel (Stacy Norton) Hurd. They eventually moved from Beloit to Wisconsin Rapids and remained devoted to each other until his death in March 2002. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Eagan, MN. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her three brothers Martin (Jim), George and John Hauser, and one nephew Kevin Hauser. She is survived by her children, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, 16 nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. Joyce held several teaching positions, including tutoring a special needs teenager, before eventually taking a position as a second grade teacher at Kinnikinnick Grade School in Roscoe, IL, where she remained until her retirement in 1982. She was known as a loving, patient teacher by all her students and co-workers. She was a prolific writer of short stories about her life. Joyce also sang soprano in her church choir most of her life. Besides her family, music and her faith gave her great joy. Her most often requested solo was “How Great Thou Art”. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
