Obituary of James M. Miller

James M. “Jim” Miller, age 74, of Burnsville, MN, died peacefully at home on February 2, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Monica. Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judith; children, Michael Miller (Mildred Ruiz) and Elizabeth (Justin) Hurst; sisters, Catherine “Cookie” (Jose) Rosario and Dolores (David Hedman) Miller; grandchildren: Jennifer, Andrew, Madison and Caroline and many relatives and friends. Jim graduated from the University of St. Thomas. He was in the Marine Corps Reserves. Jim worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 33 years. Jim was a legislative representative for the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 2265. Jim was the deputy historian for the U.S.S. Liberty Veterans Association and won a lawsuit to uncover critical documents for the survivors of the U.S.S. Liberty. Jim played trombone for the South of the River Community Band. He liked going to flea markets and casinos, enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and loved his family very much. Jim enjoyed traveling and vacationing in Shawano, WI, with close cousin, JoAnn (Tom) Schroeder. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Health Partners Hospice.
