Obituary of Gertrude Dahl Ormand

, age 94, of Stillwater passed away peacefully on February 3, 2017 surrounded by family. Gertie was born in Grand Rapids MN on January 30, 1923 to Olaf and Hulda Dahl. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1941 and moved to Washington DC to work for the government. It is there that she met and married John Ormand Jr in 1944. In 1953 they moved to Duluth where Gertie worked for the City of Duluth and raised their family. Gertie enjoyed traveling, golfing, crafting, sewing, getting together with friends for a weekly game of bridge and spending time with her family. One of her favorite activities was volunteering at Grant School, helping young children develop a love of reading. An avid learner, Gertie often took courses at UMD through the University for Seniors program. Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen Dahl, Vivian Findlay and Eleanor Briegel, brothers Larry Dahl and Bill Dahl, son John Ormand III and granddaughter Adrienne Ormand. She is survived by daughters Jane Paulson (Don), Nancy Keane (David), daughter-in-law Caroline Ormand, sister-in-law Carole Dahl, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Park Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Gertie’s life will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Homecare and Hospice in Stillwater or to the donor’s choice. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lakeview Homecare and Hospice and Golden LivingCenter-Greeley in Stillwater.
