Obituary of Cynthia Deveny

Cynthia Deveny, age 84, passed away on Feb. 4, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in West New York, New Jersey, the daughter of Thomas and Alice Ducate. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Thomas F. Deveny Jr., her husband of nearly 60 years. She is survived by her two children, Thomas P. Deveny (Debbie Deveny) and Kathleen Deveny (Tom Watson); her granddaughters, Heather Deveny-Leggitt (John Deveny-Leggitt), Andrea Deveny Schuh (Neil Schuh) and Jing Jing Kneale; her great-granddaughter Sloane Deveny-Leggitt; and her sister, Alice DeMartin. After graduating from Memorial High School in West New York, she studied nursing at Englewood Hospital, beginning a career as a registered nurse that brought her joy throughout her life. She loved entertaining, dancing, traveling, reading, animals (especially beagles) and most of all, her family. A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint Mary, 88 N. 17th St., Minneapolis. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. The family invites you to a luncheon afterwards at the Basilica's Mother Teresa Hall.
