Obituary of Margaret Smith

Margaret "Porky" Smith, 78, of Duluth, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017. Margaret was born in Duluth, on March 2, 1938 to Aloysius and Anna (Majeski) Huberty. She attended and graduated from St. Jean's Catholic School and married John "Jay" Smith on Nov. 20, 1954. Margaret retired as an RN from Essentia (St. Mary's) after 40 years of service. She was a past member of the Women's Axillary AAD Shrine, Daughters of the Nile and a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Margaret was a "spicy" individual who seldom minced words. She was an avid Minnesota sports fan who loved animals and spending time at Harold's cabin. She also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona with Harold. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; grandson, Mark Anthony Ruthford; and brother, Al "Buster". Margaret is survived by her children, Sharon (Mike) Ruthford, Karen (Larry) Johnson, Doug (Brenda) Smith and Scott Smith; grandchildren, Chris (Jill) Ruthford and Mikey Ruthford, Ross Siiter, Brandie Smith, Crystal (Jon Randa) Johnson, Anna (Marcos) Colon, Paul Hartel and John Smith; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Lorraine (Missy) Tessier, Virginia "Gina" (Joe) Murphy and Gerald (Georgia) Huberty; very close travel friend and companion Harold and many extended family members and friends. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 in Holy Family Catholic Church 2430 W 3rd St, Duluth.
