John Schultz

Obituary of John Frederick Schultz

John Frederick Schultz, Beloved Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, went home to his Savior on February 8, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota after an unexpected car accident. He was 69 years old. John was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Nelva Schultz , and wife Nita. He is survived by sons Brian and Dean, daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Brianna; seven grandchildren: Thomas, Josiah, Mikayla, Daniel, Eliana, Caden, and Livia; and sisters Katherine and Nelva, brothers-in-law Dick and Glen, and numerous other family and friends. John was born in Wayzata, MN on March 14, 1947. “Butch” as he was affectionately called, was an adventure seeking boy. He loved Tonka Trucks, trains, playing outside, fishing, and developing relationships with his two older sisters that would last his whole life. A 1965 Graduate of Hopkins High School, John entered the Army in 1966. He served his Country both in Hawaii and Vietnam, until September of 1968. He was later discharged from Fort Louis, Washington. John was a dedicated and hardworking employee spending his years with Our Own Hardware and ConAgra as a Forklift Operator until he retired in 2012. John met the love of his life, Nita, and they wed on May 4, 1973. They made their home in Apple Valley in 1977, where they raised their two sons, Brian and Dean. John was a devoted husband, selflessly caring for Nita as her dementia progressed. He was a proud Dad, always there for his sons and rarely missed an event. John loved spending most of his time with Nita: hiking at state parks, traveling on family vacations, or visiting family, friends, and neighbors. They loved to be together. John enjoyed watching their children and grandchildren grow. He was always eager to play a game or attend a recital, concert, or birthday party. John enjoyed spending his time outdoors, whether traveling the open road or mowing the lawn. Whistling while he worked, he loved to take pride in his yard, driveway, and vehicles. He recently rekindled his passion for Mustangs, always washing and waxing by hand! While spending time outside, he became a friend to any and every neighbor, often lending out his services or equipment. He was a giving, easy-going, person. John had a zest for life not many individuals have. His laugh was contagious and his passion fierce. He lived for each and every moment; giving both his time and energy to help anyone in need. He was a loyal and dear friend. He will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts. Memorial service to be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave. S, Edina on February 20 at 11 am, visitation starting at 10 am.
