Obituary of Jean Marino

Jean Marino, 88, formerly of Proctor, passed away peacefully in St. Ann's Residence in Duluth, on Feb. 27, 2017. Jean was born in Esko, on June 27, 1928, to John and Jennie Sota. She married Joseph Marino, the love of her life, on Aug. 2, 1947 in Proctor, where they made their home and raised eight children. Jean was an exceptional seamstress, sewing and altering clothing for many. Camping, playing cards with friends, and steaks on the grill were an important part of her life. She was an adventurous person and boasted of parasailing, riding in a helicopter, hot-air balloon, and small airplanes including a biplane built by her son, Mark. On her 80th birthday, she went sky-diving and was looking to jump at 90. Jean was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and five brothers and their wives: Roy, Fred, Allen (Martha), Clifford and Henry (Aileen). Jean is survived by her children, Stephen of Kettle River, Mark (Sandra Ettestad) of Duluth, Jeff (Carolyn) of Duluth, Becky (Cal) Christensen of Esko, Tony (Peggy) of Hermantown, Sara (Jeff) Wienke of Chisago Lakes, Minn., Judy (Butch) Komatz of Phillips, Wis., and Paul (Karolyn) of Brentwood, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her sister, Ailie Swanson of Boulder, Colo.; brother, David (Judith) of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Jean (Herb) Royer of Hermantown; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Jean had strong faith in the Lord and an unending love for her family. VISITATION: 9:45 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral on Monday, April 17, in St. Rose of Lima, 3 Sixth Ave., Proctor, with a graveside service following at Oneota Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
