Obituary of Glenna Colleen Lence

Glenna Colleen Lence

Passed away January 13, 2023.  Born November 3, 1929, in Osage, Iowa to Glenn and Olga (Anderson) Godfrey.  Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Jim Lence; parents Glenn and Olga; brothers Leland, Kenneth, George; sister Aldene; nephew Kenneth (“Butch”).

Glenna earned her teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and went on to teach in a one room country schoolhouse. She met the love of her life, Jim, through mutual friends and were married in 1949.  They spent a wonderful, loving 63 years together until Jim’s passing in 2013. Glenna spent most of her adult life in St. Paul Park raising their 5 children.  She was very good with numbers and worked as a bookkeeper at Cenex until her retirement.

Glenna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, her flower garden, reading, playing games of all kinds, but especially Sequence (we knew NOT to take the green chips) and cribbage. Glenna was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where she sang in the Resurrection Choir for many years, a member of the American Legion Post 98 Women’s Auxiliary, and the Lighten Up Group where she formed many close friendships.

Survived by daughter, Mickey Anderson (Dave); sons, Michael (Debbie), Don, Ron (Pat) and Tom (Judy); 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her deeply loved extended family in Iowa.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 9 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park.  Visitation 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to Mass.
