Obituary of Michael Leo Stewart

Michael "Mike" Leo Stewart, 60, of Duluth, passed away unexpectedly in his home Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in the company of his loving wife, Laurie. Mike was born in Duluth on Feb. 15, 1957 and raised by his mother, Joan and adopted father Jack Stewart, along with his sister and four brothers in the community of Homecroft. He attended Washington Junior High and Duluth Central High School. Mike dropped out before graduating but later in life he studied very hard, passed his GED and received his high school diploma in a graduation ceremony at the DECC. On Feb. 5, 1982 Mike married Laurel J. Treviranus. As a young man, he attended Piney Point Seaman's Academy in Maryland, Mass., and worked on the ships that sailed the Great Lakes. Mike worked for Midwest Patrol as a security guard at the Duluth Airport but for the last several years as a security guard at Fond du luth Casino in downtown Duluth. Mike enjoyed stories of the old west and spent some time traveling and visiting old western towns such as Deadwood. He enjoyed sports, watching the Vikings and Twins play ball. He was a kind, quiet man, who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jack Stewart; all his grandparents; two cousins; all his in-laws; and very special friend, Raymond Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Laurie; stepsons, Scott (Cecelia Bennett) Tousignant and Ken (Andrea) Tousignant; his mother, Joni Stewart; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; five siblings, Carla (Dave) Herman, Mitch Stewart, Wade (Colleen) Stewart, Scott (Will) Stewart and Loren (Brenda) Stewart; three aunts, two uncles, many cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends, especially Donny McKay. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 1:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. memorial service Saturday, March 18, in the Northern Light Christian Church, 5724 Miller Trunk Hwy, Duluth, next to the Tongue and Groove Store.
