Obituary of Antonia “Toni” Victoria Machones

Antonia "Toni" Victoria (Burbul) Machones, 90, of Superior, passed away on March 15, 2017. Toni was born in Superior on Aug. 8, 1926. She graduated from Superior East High School and continued on to receive a Nursing Degree from Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. She worked as an RN in the old St Mary's Hospital in Superior and in Middle River Healthcare Facility. Toni was married to Michael Machones on Aug. 26, 1950; they were married 56 years before his death in 2006. Toni was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Yearly family reunions were a special time for her; along with traveling, puzzles and playing cards. Toni enjoyed sharing her special crocheted items with family, friends, and new friends. Toni was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; one sister and four brothers. Toni is survived by her seven children, Michael (Melinda) Ft Myers, Fla., Joseph (Diana) Proctor, Marianne Johnson Superior, Susan Machones Oconomowoc Wis., Joan (John) Mattila St Louis Park Minn., Helen (Ronald) Munkittrick Westfield N.J., Barbara Machones St Paul; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Theresa Travnikar of North Branch, Mich.; special lifelong "Club" members, numerous nephews and nieces, and many friends. A special thank you to the caring staff from Villa Marina Healthcare Facility and the St. Luke's 6th Floor Heart Care & Hospice Departments. Toni's celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at St Francis cemetery in Superior. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society of MN. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to St Anthony's Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.
