Obituary of Warren Ludwig Anderson

Warren Ludwig Anderson, 84, of Grand Marais, died March 16, 2017 at Cook County North Shore Hospital. Warren was born September 26, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN to Marguerite and Ludwig Anderson. He married Lorraine Cahlander July 9, 1955 at Hennepin Methodist Church in Minneapolis, and received his degree at Augsburg College. Warren served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Through his career in Social Services, he served his communities as Hennepin County Social Services Child Protection Supervisor, Director of Cook County Social Services, and Guardian ad Litem for the Sixth Judicial District Court. He also served on several boards, including the Arrowhead Regional Corrections and the Cook County Council on Aging. Warren loved to cook, and owned the Square Peg Restaurant in Minneapolis back in the late ‘70’s. He loved the outdoors. In his younger days he camped in the Boundary Waters, enjoyed stays at Gunflint, Gateway Hungry Jack, and Chik-wauk lodges, and later at his McFarland Lake cabin. He loved fishing with friends, feeding the deer and birds, and picking his fresh tomatoes from his garden. Perhaps most of all, he loved a good card game, earning the level of Silver Lifetime Master in Duplicate Bridge. Thanks to all who shared the table with him during his life. He is preceded in death by his wife - Lorraine, sister – Gloria Anderson, brother – Richard “Dick” Anderson, parents, and his in-laws, Adele and Loren Cahlander. He is survived by his sister, Joy “Bunny” Davis of Minneapolis, two daughters, Kristen Anderson (Janet Effler) and Jennifer Fenwick (Bob) of Grand Marais; and son, Erik Anderson (Kimberly) of Lakeville, MN; and five grandchildren, Jeremiah Yeary (Jeni) of Grand Marais, MN, Jeff Fenwick of Bemidji, MN, Luke Fenwick (Heidi) of Minot, ND, Kyle Sobanja (Naimby Vente) of San Ignacio, Peru, and Autumn Anderson, of Lakeville, MN; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Jr. and Mark Yeary of Grand Marais, MN. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais at 11 a.m. Pastor Mark Ditmanson will officiate. Gifts in memoriam will be accepted for Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center through the Warren Anderson Memorial Fund, Grand Marais State Bank, PO Box 100, Grand Marais.
