Obituary of Lillian C. McDonald

Lillian C. (Hedlund) McDonald, 86 of Duluth passed away on March 19, 2017 in Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. She was born on April 30, 1930 to Clara and Arthur Hedlund and was a graduate of Proctor High School. She married her husband, Thomas "Bud" McDonald, the love of her life, in 1949. Together they raised five children in Hermantown. Lillian lived in the Duluth area for most of her life. She and Bud were snowbirds in Laughlin, Nev., for many years. A special adventure was her 1990 trip to Sweden with her daughter to see the town where her mother was born and raised. Lillian was an avid reader, volunteered for many years at the Miller Dwan gift shop, enjoyed making greeting cards, and was renowned for her fabulous Swedish rye bread. She was very artistic and loved working in ceramics. She was a loving wife and mother, a generous friend and a wonderful listener. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Hedlund; her daughter, Cathleen McDonald; and her son Dennis McDonald. She is survived by her husband, Thomas "Bud" McDonald; children, Colleen McDonald of Titusville, Fla., her son Gary McDonald (Barbara Holisky) of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Jamie McDonald of Duluth; her sister-in-law, Lila Hedlund of Osseo, Minn., her best friend since childhood Ruby Roth and her godson, Jonathan Wick. At this time the family would like to thank Mark, Linda and Jonathon Wick, Jean McDonald, and Patricia Sirois for the loving support they gave to Lillian and Bud this winter by driving Bud to and from the nursing home There will be a memorial service in the spring with interment at Forest Hills cemetery.
