Terry Jacobsen

Obituary of Terry L. Jacobsen

Please Note Memorial Service Date Change! Terry Lee Jacobsen, 70, passed away on March 24, 2017 at Golden Living Care Facility in Hopkins, MN after suffering a stroke March 1, 2012, which left him immobile. Terry was born on August 27 in Billings, Montana, to Carl Bertram Jacobsen and Geraldine Rich Jacobsen. Terry grew up in Hopkins, MN and he graduated from Hopkins High School in 1964. After high school he attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana before entering the USAF. He served his country there as an Air Force paratrooper stationed in Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne. He enjoyed so many things in life … among them fishing, movies, skiing, horses, shooting, caring for animals, and a love of anything cowboy and the western way. He resided in many places: Minnesota; Whitefish, MT; Richmond, VA; Tombstone, AZ … the closest to his heart was Whitefish Montana where we spent almost every summer vacation, growing up. Terry was charming, charismatic and made a lasting impression on everyone he met and interacted with. Those that knew him seem to have a favorite “Jake” story, which we are starting to collect. If you have one you’d like to share please send to me at tjodyjac@gmail.com. Photos appreciated too. Terry’s greatest accomplishment and his joy came from his two beautiful daughters: Jennifer Carrie and Angela Kay and his grandsons Grayson and Keaton. They were the light of his life! He was an incredible artist although, I think, he never quite believed he was ever “good enough” … that being the perfectionist in him. He also helped hone his daughter Jennifer’s skill as she inherited this talent. Terry had an amazing memory that didn’t fail him even with the vascular dementia that was a result of the stroke. It would maybe take him a moment but he would recall, answer and reminisce! What he did lose was his mobility and a sense of timing so that he didn’t quite realize the hours, days, months and years that had elapsed and I believe that was a blessing for him. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Carl B. Jacobsen, and mother, Geraldine Rich Jacobsen. Terry was cremated through the Cremation Society of Minnesota and a celebration of his life and friends’ tribute will now occur, Friday, June 23 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Rd in Hopkins, MN 55343. 10 am Visitation, 11 am Service. For you Old West folks, dress of that era would be most appropriate! His brother, Tim, lovingly made his urn for him, or “transport wessel” as they called it. Terry always wanted a Viking funeral to Valhalla and his daughters may make that happen in some way … putting some of his ashes on a miniature-made Viking ship and set it ablaze! After all, why not! He will be so very missed … but never, ever forgotten.
