Obituary of Corinne Jane Smith

Smith, Corinne Jane age 83 of Bloomington, Minnesota died March 30th, 2017 at her home in Friendship Village. Born to the late Henry and Elizabeth Schneider on March 10, 1934 in Rego Park, NY, she is survived by her siblings Carol (Joseph), Mary Ellen (Anthony), and Henry (Karen). Corinne is also survived by her loving husband James of 60 years; five children, Nancie (Will), James (Carol), Michael (Cara), Peter (Liz) and Patrick (Meredith); twelve grandchildren, Alise (Jason), Daniel, Claire (Mark), Matthew (Molly), Megan, Will, Mara, Brad, Stephen, Marika, Sarah, and Grayson; three great-grandchildren, Ingrid, Madeleine, and Ivy. The oldest of four children, Corinne was raised to be a strong and independent woman. Spending summers on the beach in Rocky Point, NY she developed her love of the water and a passion for swimming she maintained her entire life. The wife of an airline pilot who flew for Minneapolis based Northwest Airlines which relocated Corinne and Jim to Minnesota in 1958 where she raised her family. In addition to swimming, Corinne loved to sew, making most of her own clothes and to cook, never ever making anything that came out of a box. Her single biggest passion however, was her family. She passed the resourcefulness and strength of character her father instilled in her onto her children and her grandchildren. She said recently, "I didn't do anything that important, but I did it every day." Her family would beg to differ, citing the importance of what they witnessed in her as she demonstrated how to love unconditionally in her marriage to James over 60 years, the importance of faith in her life and her commitment to the strength of family. There will be a visitation at 10 AM, April 5 at Pax Christi Catholic Church (12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, Minnesota 55347) followed by a funeral service and lunch.
