Obituary of John A. Hofheins

Age 88 of Woodbury, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2017. Born on January 4, 1929 in Ely, Nevada to the late Wilkes and Roselda (Edwards). He was the sixth of nine children. John attended High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from BYU with a degree in Sociology, attending 2 years at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. While attending the University, he was a ski instructor at Brighton Ski Resort. He was enlisted in the Air Force from 1951-53 and served at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He met his bride on a blind date, Mary Sue Bruner, and they were married in September of 1958 and moved to Minneapolis, MN. He joined his father in law in business of wholesale furniture sales which he continued to do until his retirement. John achieved 47 years of sobriety along with sponsoring many others in AA. John loved to travel and was an avid horsemen, showing American Saddlebred Horses. He continued to be an expert downhill skier, taking ski trips up until her was 80, when he decided it might be a little dangerous for him at that age. When his job took him to Florida, he found a new hobby, remodeling condo’s! He loved the sunshine state, but moved back to Minnesota to be close to his daughters. He was a volunteer at Fairview Southdale Hospital. John was a dedicated father and friend. He enjoyed helping others in whatever capacity he could. He was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Sue, Brothers; Jay, Dee, Stanley, Warren and Sheldon. Sisters; Louise, Cleo and Mary. He is survived by his two daughters; Joanna of Minneapolis and Gretchen (Mark) Wackerfuss of Woodbury and his Grand Dogs. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Memorial Service Friday, April 14, 2017 at 9:45am at the Historic Ft Snelling Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Internment with Honors immediately following at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Gathering of Remembrance and friendship following at his home in Woodbury. Special Thank You to the caregivers of the Salvation Army in Maplewood and the Good Samaritan Society of Inver Grove Heights.
