Obituary of Sidney James Monroe

88, South Minneapolis, passed away April 4, 2017. Memorial service at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4537 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55419, Visitation Friday, June 23, 2017 1 pm, Service 2 pm, light refreshments to follow. Sidney was born June 7, 1928, in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Edgar Wilson Monroe and Mildred Frances (Mulvey) Monroe. On April 12, 1958 he married Catherine (Katy) Jane Becker of Greater Detroit, Michigan. They lived in Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo and Flushing, New York and Minneapolis. They had one son, Sidney James Monroe, Jr of Lake Stevens, WA. and six grandchildren. Sidney retired after 45 years with the Railroad in various management positions. Katy preceded him in death in October of 2007. Sidney enjoyed an active social life at the Senior Center, in four different bridge clubs, taking various cruises and even playing bingo. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Patrick Monroe of Lake Stevens, WA; sister, Renee Monroe of Boston, MA; brother, Jason Monroe of Lawton, OK; a niece, Deborah Mulvey of Union Grove, WI, and nephew/godson, Dennis Mulvey of Neenah, WI. Sidney is survived by sister, Mary (Wayne) Coonley of Stuarts Draft, VA; sister, Janet (Larry) Mulvey of Neenah, WI; sister, Bergetta (Tom Peters) Monroe of Burnsville, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
