Obituary of Carol J. Thompson

Carol J. Thompson of Virginia, formerly of Wentworth, Wis., died Tuesday April 4, 2017 in Bayshore Health Center, Duluth. She was born Sept. 16,1940 in Menahga, Minn., to Hjalmer and Julia (Karjala) Johnson. She married Emil LaVerne Nelson on Oct. 19, 1957 in Hibbing. They enjoyed eight and a half years of marriage before Laverne's untimely passing. She married Clyde Russell Thompson on Sept. 13, 1978 and was widowed a second time when he passed away in July 1983 from cancer. Survivors include her daughter, Darla (Peter) Thaldorf, Eagan, Minn.; sons, Darrell (Cindy) Nelson and Doug (Sharon) Nelson of Poplar, and Bruce (De Ana) Nelson, Iron River; grandchildren, Leah (Brian), Daniel, Luke (Danielle) Thaldorf, Rachael Nelson, Naomi (Kyle) Sands, Bethany (Daniel) Gant, Nathan (Nicole), Mariah, Emily, Seth, Andrew, Allison, Jonathan, James, Abigail, and Hannah Nelson, Noah and Sarah Suggs; great-grandchildren, Emmaline Sands and Isaiah Gant; siblings, Virgil (Bonnie), Jim, Leon (Belinda) and Steve Johnson and Cheryl (Harvey) Zachman. She was preceded in death by her husbands, LaVerne Nelson and Russell Thompson; her sister, Shirley Yvonne Johnson; parents, and brother, Ken Johnson. VISITATION: 3 p.m. until the 4 p.m. service on Saturday April 8, in Mission Covenant Church, Poplar, with the Reverend Darrell L Nelson officiating. Interment will be Sunday Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Alajoki Cemetery in Menahga, Minn.
