Obituary of Theodore Henry Hein

Theodore Henry Hein was born November 1, 1921 near Ashley, North Dakota on the Farm. He was born to Mike and Magdalina Hein. Ted had two older brothers, one older sister, and one younger brother. Ted’s father passed in 1929 and his mother remarried in 1935 to Anton Former. The family then moved to Monango, North Dakota with Anton. Ted was very close with his step-father Anton, whom he described fondly as a very good man. Ted graduated High School in 1939 and moved to San Diego, CA to work in the shipyard. He returned to Monango in 1942 and joined the United States Navy, Seabees. He went to Boot Camp in Perry, VA and then took advanced training at Camp Endicott in Rhode Island. After training he returned to San Diego and began his 18 months overseas, serving in WWII. Ted received his Honorable discharge in 1945. Upon his return he attended Dakota Business College for 18 months. After graduation he began working for Firestone Tire and Rubber as an Office and Credit Manager. In 1949 he returned to Wahpeton again where he owned and operated a service station. He sold the station in 1959 and went into the Laundry and Dry Cleaning business which he operated until 1968. In 1969 he began carrying mail for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1985. He moved to Lake Placid, FL for his retirement. Ted was a lifelong member of the VFW in Wahpeton and a member of the American Legion in Lake Placid. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Placid. Ted returned to Columbia Heights, MN to be near family. Ted went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2018.He is preceded in death by siblings and step-grandchild, Lisa Johnson. He will be missed by his step-children, Betty Harlan (David Smith), Linda (Harold) Sherbrooke, Earl Ohlgren, Robert Ohlgren; step-grandchildren, Anna (Caleb) Spore, Brad, Joshua, and Zachary Ohlgren; nephew, Roger Hein and great-niece, Amy Hein; extended family, Audrey Ohlgren, and Jason and Jack Johnson. A Service for Ted will be held at a later date.
