Obituary of Nicholas Rusinak

Nicholas was commonly known as Nick. He was born on 3 May 1920 at 6:00 pm at 426 19th Avenue NE, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota to William Rusinak, Sr. and Anna (Legus) Rusinak He graduated in June 1938 from Edison High School, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. He began military service on 12 April 1942 at Fort Snelling, Hennepin County, Minnesota. He served in the Panama Canal Zone and in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations (New Guinea and Luzon). His military occupation was Chaplain's Assistant. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and received an Honorable Discharge. He ended military service on 13 December 1945 at Separation Center, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He married Mavis Miller 29 June 1947 at Portland Avenue Christian Church, Portland Avenue and Grant Street, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. He was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota in June 1950. He earned a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 1952. Choir Director for 28 years at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Director of Senior and Junior Choirs at Mankato Senior High School, Mankato, Minnesota (1951-1953). General Music Teacher at Jefferson Junior High School, Minneapolis, Minnesota and other schools in the Minneapolis school system. He died on 22 April 2017 at 4527 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota, at age 96. He is survived by sons Richard (Barbara) and Ronald (Ramona); grandchildren Rebecca (David) Whitaker, Steven, Jason (Jean), and Elizabeth (David) Mowers; and great-grandchildren Aidan Whitaker, Tristan Whitaker, Logan Whitaker, Anna Rusinak, Clara Rusinak, and Miriam Mowers. He was preceded in death by wife of 69 years, Mavis (Miller) Rusinak and brothers William Rusinak, Jr. and James Rusinak.
