Obituary of Wayne W. Johnson

Wayne W. Johnson 89, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Solvay Hospice House. Wayne was born in Superior, WI on June 16, 1927 to Thure and Anna (Lidell) Johnson. He graduated from East High in Superior and served in the US Navy during World War II and Korea. He married Dorothy Olander in Cloquet. After returning to Superior, he worked for Eddie's Bakery which was later purchased by Taystee Bread. Wayne worked as a delivery driver for Taystee bread until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, Wayne and his wife wintered in Sun City West, Arizona until her passing in 2010. Wayne enjoyed fishing on the Brule, golfing with his buddies on the Nemadji golf course and working on the family cabin. He was also an exceptional bowler and was inducted into the Superior Bowling Hall of Fame in 2014. Wayne will be remembered for being a steady and dependable man who placed great emphasis on the importance of family. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; son Mike; his parents and sisters Delores and Janice. Wayne is survived by his sons, Timothy (Pam) Johnson, Paul Johnson; grandchildren, Chris (Lauren), Sarah, Rachael, Eric and Betsy; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Gabe, Abigail, Andrew and Avery as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Miller Dwan ICU and Solvay Hospice House for the extraordinary care they provided Wayne. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 12 noon until the 1 pm memorial service on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd 1325 N 45th Ave E, Duluth, MN. Military Honors will provided by the Duluth Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Wayne's name.
