Georgene Martha Cordes
Cordes, Georgene Martha (Warren) of Apple Valley, formerly of Red Wing, passed away on May 8, 2017 at the age of 89.
Georgene was a well-known bowler who won numerous City, State, and National awards and was inducted into the Minneapolis and Minnesota State Bowling Halls of Fame. In 1976, she and her bowling partner Shirley Sjostrom won the NIBC National Doubles championship in Denver, CO. She also held two individual National records. In 1970 the WIBC certified that her season end average of 206 was third highest in the nation. She was a member of the Professional Women’s Bowlers Association and bowled in 50 WIBC and USBC National Tournaments. In 2011 Georgene was presented with a gold medallion and a 50-year Participation Plaque at a ceremony in Syracuse, NY.
Georgene was also employed by the city of Bloomington for many years.
Georgene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years Wayne Cordes, her sister Doris Hoffman, and her brother Richard Warren. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Robin (Richard) Burkard and Fern Feindt, nieces and nephews and their families, and by her multitude of friends.
A Celebration of Georgene’s Life will be held at 5:00pm Tuesday May 16, Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave S (952-924-4100). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. A light supper will follow. Private interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Humane Society or to Bowlers for Veterans Link.
