Obituary of Donald L. Olson

Donald L. Olson, age 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 26, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Duluth. Don was born Dec. 10, 1937 in Rice Lake, WI to Sidney and Viola (Stelzer) Olson. Don retired from the U.S. Air Force having served both as active duty and as a civilian. Don served his community by volunteering through the Lions Club and his church, He most enjoyed working the Annual Lions Club Pancake Day, dressing up as Santa for the Union Gospel Mission and delivering meals for Loaves & Fishes and Meals on Wheels. Don is preceded in death by his parents, and step-son, Marc Donovan He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, Don (Gwen) Olson of Hawaii and Shannon (Mike Fransk) Olson of Wisc: step-son, Bill (Katie) Donovan of Duluth; several grandchildren; his sister, Cathy Scott of Madison, WI; nephews, Mark (Michelle) Scott, Dale (Janell) Scott and Craig (Kelly) Scott; his niece, Tena (James) Hartman; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hillside United Methodist Church or The Union Gospel Mission. Gathering of family and friends will be Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10 am. A memorial service will follow immediately at 11 am in Hillside United Methodist Church, 18011 Piedmont Ave, Duluth.
