Obituary of Mary Josephine Soderlund

Mary Josephine "Jo" Soderlund died peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018. She was born on January 24, 1911 to August & Mary Ann (McKanna) Kriebs in Estherville, Iowa. Her family lived in Hacken-sack, Minnesota, where her father worked as a furrier. Jo taught third grade at Our Lady of the Lake School in Mound, where she raised a family and lived more than 70 years. She was active in civic organizations and politics. "If you can do it, do it!" Equally at home in heels or in gardening gloves, Jo was a member of the Gillespie Center Book Club, the Red Hat Society and the Lark Spur Garden Club. Her passions included painting, acting and traveling. Jo is survived by her son John, her son-in-law Steve Candell, granddaughters Ann Sessions and Wendy Candell, great grandsons Josh, Tyler and Cody, nephew Robert Kriebs, and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, daughter Nancy Candell, brothers Vaughn and William Kriebs, and sister-in-law, Vivian Kriebs. Mass of Christian Burial: 11am, August 7th at our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Memorials can be made to The Gillespie Center in Mound.
