Obituary of Maurice Frank Meyer

Maurice Frank Meyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Born May 11, 1926 and returned to our Lord on June 3, 2017 surrounded by family. Preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers and a sister. Survived by his wife Naomi (Crane); Children: Diane (Dan) Lundeen, David (Miya) Meyer, Daniel (Mary) Meyer, DeWayne (Jody) Meyer, Debbie (Mike) Lence, Donna (Dan) Rehkamp, Daria Meyer, Doralie (Steve) Poganski 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren Sisters: Vivian Buckley, Marilyn Shaubauer, Brother-in-Law Gene Lutz, Sister-in-Laws Alayne Meyer, and Alice Schwan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maurice was born and raised on a farm in Hoven, SD and joined the US Army in 1945 and served in Hiroshima, Japan as a medic and left the military in 1946 at the end of WWII. Decorations and citations include the Army of Occupation Medal Japan, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. Maurice returned to Hoven to marry his sweetheart Naomi in 1948. They moved to St. Paul, MN in 1952 as he began work with the US Postal Service. The family moved to St. Paul Park, MN in 1953 where they raised their family. He retired in 1987 from the Post Office and began traveling as snowbirds to Texas and visiting family and friends. In 2003, they moved to North Branch, MN to enjoy their retirement home near family. Maurice was a member of the American Legion Post #85 and was a long-time participant of the Knights of Columbus through St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in St. Paul Park. Maurice and Naomi frequently volunteered in their community and he enjoyed sharing his vocal talents throughout the region. He surprised many choir leaders with his harmonization talents and volume to carry the group. His love of singing was shared with his family and there were many times you could find the Meyer Family singing around a camp fire. His love of hunting in South Dakota for pheasant and fishing throughout the many lakes of Minnesota while boating are legendary. He shared this love of the outdoors with his children. He was an avid rock collector and filled the backyard of their home. His love of buffets, which started at Tinucci's in Newport, extended throughout his life. He loved a game of 500 and challenged the bid every time. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... A private service and burial will be held and interment at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the charity of your choice.
