Obituary of Lawrence F. Schubert
Lawrence F. Schubert, 94, of Duluth, passed away on June 14, 2017 at his home with family by his side.
Lawrence knew that Jesus Christ died on the cross for his sins and that belief in Jesus' finished work on the cross and rising from the dead gave him the free gift of eternal life in heaven which he greatly looked forward to.
Lawrence was born in Wahkon, Minnesota on February 25, 1923 to Edward and Jane (McGraw) Schubert. He grew up and worked on the family farm during the Great Depression where he learned resourcefulness, value of hard work, the importance of family and respect for the Lord. He graduated from Isle High School in 1941. Lawrence attended the U.S. Maritime Engineering School in New York City from 1942 to 1944 and was a lieutenant in the Merchant Marine during World War II (1944 to 1949). He graduated from Dunwoody Industrial Institute, Minneapolis in 1954 and furthered his education with DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago, IL.
He was united in marriage to Laura Delores Ohlson in 1954. In 1955 they moved to Silver Bay where Lawrence served as part of the Reserve Mining Company start-up team. He pushed the button that produced the first taconite pellet. He retired as a superintendent in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a long-time member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he volunteered as a weekly money counter. He was also very involved in the Knights of Columbus.
Lawrence was a man of great integrity who personified dependability, trustworthiness and loyalty. He was a fantastic father figure who was involved and dedicated to his children and grandchildren. He had a pronounced sense of humor that was both sharp and witty.
He is preceded in death by his wife Laura (2012); his parents and brothers, Vincent and Raymond.
Lawrence is survived by his son David (Rhonda); daughters, Linda Schubert, Karen Moore, Julie (Assaf) Diab, Diane Schubert; 6 grandchildren: Andrea (Joel) Vlaminck, Samara and Jack Diab, Abigail, Rosa and Rachael Schubert; siblings, Leonard (Margaret) Schubert, Phillip Schubert, Mary Schubert, and Alice (Ray) Auer as well as many extended family members and friends.
The family extends a special thank you to St. Luke's Hospice, Kindred at Home and Dr. Mark Plachta for their exceptional care and kindness.
Dad, you are much loved and will be greatly missed.
