Obituary of Alfred C. Morberg

Alfred C. Morberg of Duluth, age 84, passed away peacefully at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth on June 27, 2017. Alfred was born in Oslo, MN on August 6, 1932, to Axel and Clara Morberg. He graduated from Oslo High School in 1950 and attended the Gale Institute and also the Northwestern TV & Electronics School in Minneapolis. Alfred served in the US Navy aboard the USS Walker from 1952-1956 as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict. He married Doris McGlynn in Stephen, MN on October 26, 1954 and they had four children. Alfred worked as a telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad, a maintenance worker for KEBE Radio Station in Minneapolis and then worked for 34 years for US West as a business install technician, retiring in 1991. One of Alfred's proudest accomplishments was assisting in the installation of the 911 Emergency call system in many areas of northeast MN. He was a 12 year member of the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Twig VFW, the Telephone Pioneers, and the Modern Woodmen of America. Alfred's hobbies included 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting, gardening, tinkering in the garage and getting together with his many neighbors on Bergen Lake. His kind and loving demeanor, his willing to help others, and his love for his family will be missed dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother Axel. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris of Duluth; sons Mitch (Yuan) Morberg of Hillman, MN; Kent Morberg (friend Heather Ashbaugh) of Saginaw; daughters Wendy (Kurt) Johnson, and Jill Morberg both from Duluth; grandchildren, Wesley & Mya Morberg; Kyle (friend Kaylyn Mottonen) and Brad Morberg; Libby Johnson; Nathan, Jackson and Clara Gebeck; sister, Madeline (John) Kosmatka of Medford, Oregon; special cousins John and Mary Morberg of Moorhead, MN and Raymond and Alice Swanson of Warren, MN; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the nurses and doctors of Essentia Hospice in Duluth, and all their Bergen Lake friends and neighbors for their love and support over the years. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1-4 pm at the Twig Community Center, 5287 Highway 53, Saginaw, (Twig) MN. Arrangements are being provided by the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Burial at a Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date.
