Obituary of Maurice W. Grothe

Maurice W. "Maurie" Grothe, age 86, entered his heavenly home on July 1, 2017. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years and his son Jeff. Maurie was born on Aug. 18, 1930 in Rush City, MN, where he grew up and married his high school sweetheart. He was an avid athlete lettering in all 4 sports offered at his school, all 4 yrs. of his high school career. He had a natural gift for music, played the accordion by ear and could polka or waltz like no other. He enjoyed a variety of music, absolutely every sport and relaxed time with family and friends. With humble beginnings, he worked hard as a machinest, to provide for his wife and 4 children, earning the respect of peers, family and friends alike. Maurie was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Mae Grothe, brothers Wallace (Margaret), Beuford, (Arlene). He leaves behind wife Margaret "Mickey", sons Tom (Linda), Ron (Judy), Jeff, daughter Sue Schorn, grandchildren Todd, Sara (Chris), Andrea, Jessica (Aaron), Amanda and Tommy (Jesi) as well as 10 great grandchildren (almost 11). He had many special nieces, nephews and dear friends and a very special care giver in recent years, Michelle Maxa. Funeral service to be held at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church, 4455 S Robert Trl, Eagan, MN 55123 Friday, July 7, 11 AM with visitation one hour prior and lunch served immediately following funeral. Private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the church of St. Thomas Becket.
