Obituary of Katherine Lynn Shubat-Yee

Katherine Lynn Shubat-Yee, 70, passed away at home on Friday, December 23, 2022, after a three-year battle with ALS.

Kathy was born December 12, 1952, in Stambaugh, MI to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Nantelle) Shubat. She loved going camping with her family in a renovated bus, cheering on the Packers and was proud of being a “Yooper.” A graduate of Stambaugh-West Iron County Schools, she was delighted to celebrate her 50th Class Reunion in 2021.

Following graduation, Kathy moved to the Twin Cities and studied cosmetology. She eventually became an electrologist and started her own business. In 1991, she married John Yee, and they enjoyed traveling many places including Hawaii, Sedona, AZ and Yosemite. Kathy was very generous, helping many friends and family when they were in need. Her generosity was also extended to the many foster dogs she rescued and placed through her years of volunteering with Lucky Dog Rescue. Kathy loved gardening, identifying birds and butterflies, and watching horror movies with family and friends. She possessed a quick wit, a beautiful smile that lit up the room and always had a twinkle in her eye.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary and Linda. Kathy is survived by her husband, John; brother, Joseph (Theresa) Shubat; sister, Jo Ann (Bruce) Callovi; nieces, Mary, Sandy and Sheena Shubat, Allyson (Marc) Parenteau, Katelyn and Jasmyn Yee; and nephews Joseph (Dan Li) Shubat, Jr., Christian and Easton Yee and Sam Wambeke.

Please join us as we celebrate Kathy’s life on January 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation the hour before Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave. N., Brooklyn Center, MN 55429. A luncheon reception will follow the service. A graveside burial ceremony in Michigan will be held later this year.
