Obituary of June Carpenter

June Carpenter, 93, of Bloomington, MN passed away on January 2, 2023, at her home in Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington with the support of Optage Hospice.

June was born February 5, 1929, in Hopkins, MN. She went to Hamline University in St. Paul and earned her B.A. in Sociology in 1952. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta National Honorary Sociological Fraternity. June then went to Wabasha County, where she set in place child welfare services. She married in 1956. After her marriage ended in 1968, she returned to social work and completed postgraduate courses in chemical dependency at University of MN. She was Supervisor of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Program at Family Service of St. Paul until 1979. June retired from Social Work in 1979 because of severe arthritis. She joined her dear friend, Arvilla (Archie) Bade at Commercial Employment Bureau in St. Paul as Financial Vice President. Both she and Archie retired in 1991. June loved social work and her service to others-a dedication she carried throughout her life. She played the piano and sang in various choirs. She enjoyed classical music and the peace it brought to her. June loved her family and her friends and was grateful to all of them. June was a recovering alcoholic with 52 years of sobriety. She followed the Principles of Alcoholics Anonymous throughout all the years of recovery, both professionally and personally. June never turned away anyone seeking help for addiction, and she did so with empathy and purpose. God now holds her in his grace.

Preceeded in death by parents Herbert and Hulda Weckman, brothers Herbert (Elisabeth) Weckman and Earl Weckman. Survived by sister-in-law Marilyn Weckman, nieces Joan (Bari) Walk, Susan (Roy) Vance, nephews Thomas (Karyn) Weckman and Herbert Weckman, many great nieces/nephews, other caring family and friends.
