Obituary of Robert Milton Redmond

Redmond, Robert M. Age 89, of Minneapolis, passed away on August 6, 2017. Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years Phyllis, daughters Nancy Malone and Susan Redmond, grandson Robert Malone and his wife Audrey, great granddaughter Mara and his cat Luna. Bob was proceeded in death by his granddaughter Molly Malone and his parents Mimi and Robert and many of his lifelong friends. Bob was a Korean vet who spent time in Japan. Bob graduated from the U of M in business and worked for General Motors until his retirement in 1988. Bob and Phyllis enjoyed a busy life; sharing their interests together and on their own. They hosted bridge club parties, played tennis, went square dancing and enjoyed eating out, going to movies and going on garden and house tours. Over the past 5 years, Bob has taken care of Phyllis who is in memory care the late stages of Alzheimer’s disease – they lived in the same senior housing building for the past three years. Bob was a very talented artist in wood sculpture, stained glass, furniture, mobiles and an overall totally handy dude who could fix anything. Bob was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Men’s Garden Club in Minneapolis. He won several boulevard garden awards in the City of Minneapolis and participated in benefit tours of his amazing gardens. Bob was a bit accident prone and was known for falling off ladders. We likened Bob to a cat with nine lives, he had many trips to the ER in the past 3 years from which he would bounce back. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor – he greatly enjoyed The Benny Hill Show and Seinfeld. Bob was a lifelong Vikings ticketholder and spent many years at Met Stadium in the cold. In his later years, Bob enjoyed golfing. Words that describe Bob are highly independent, sharp as a tack, stubborn, funny, multi-talented and a great father who will be missed as our rock. Few people know that Bob was also a senior supermodel and he appeared in a magazine medication advertisement sporting a hospital gown. A private burial will be held August 14, 2017, and a life celebration is being planned for early September for friends and family in a garden setting. Bob remains will be in south Minneapolis at St. Mary’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Men and Women’s Garden Club of Minneapolis or to the Alzheimer’s Association in Phyllis Redmond’s name.
