Obituary of Gloria J. Smith

Gloria J. Smith of Elko New Market, Minnesota passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday morning, August 16th, 2017 at the age of 71. Gloria was born November 12th, 1945 in Slocomb, Alabama, and raised in Columbus, Georgia. Gloria married Jonathan Smith on August 24th, 1963 and in February of 1964, they moved to Minnesota and raised their family together. Gloria worked at Skyline displays and Apothecary. Gloria had very close relationships with all of her family members. She was a very loving and involved grandmother, taking her grandchildren on road trips through the states, attending school and sporting events, taking them to church with her, but most of all, she would frequently take them to her favorite restaurant, the Cracker Barrel. Gloria was always traveling with family or visiting family or sometimes both. Gloria loved having company and opening her home up to her family especially at Thanksgiving and Easter in which she would host every year. Playing spite and malice, attending church with her husband, and being in the presence of her loved ones are a few of the things that made Gloria the happiest. Preceded in death by parents, Melba Greely and Burl Edmondson; sister, Linda Edmondson-Sharp; brother, Wallace Edmondson; son, Michael Glenn; grandson, Noah Smith. Survived by her husband, Jonathan Smith; sons,Chris (Heidi) Smith and Jeremy Smith; grandchildren, Nick and Alexandra Smith; brother, Wesley (Barbara) Edmondson; nieces, Wendy Fairbanks and Becky Newton; step father, John Greely Funeral services for Gloria will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd at the Discovery Church in Burnsville, MN. Visitation will be from 10am-11am, followed by the service at 11am. The burial ceremony will follow afterwards at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
