Obituary of Ellen H. Saine

Ellen Saine died Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the age of 101 in Two Harbors with family by her side. She was born September 28, 1915, to Mike and Gurine Hoseth in Two Harbors and was a life long resident. She married Leo Saine in June 1938 and raised 3 children. Ellen worked many jobs starting as a secretary in the Two Harbors hospital. She later did court reporting and then owned the Lake County Abstract Company. She was a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served many years as treasurer. She loved to travel and visited many countries. Ellen was very active in the community and was the chairman of the 1982 All Class Reunion. She was an avid golfer and won many tournaments. She started the annual Grandma's Tournament and won many times. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was competitive until shortly before she died. Ellen loved all types of art. She made jewelry, painted and she and Leo did beautiful stained glass work. Ellen and Leo also hosted the first AFS exchange student in Two Harbors, Helmut Zeumer. Ellen is survived by her daughters Karen (Dan) Leksell, Kathleen (David) Falk and son Brian (Carol) Saine. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, Lee (Denise) Leksell, Diana (Mike) Kucza, Heidi (David) Bauman, Douglas (Annie) Falk, Christian (Andrea) Saine, Peter (Alex) Saine, Stephen Saine and Jonathan Saine, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
