Obituary of William St. Mane
William "Bill" St. Mane, Jr. Bill was welcomed into Heaven on August 30th at the age of 82. Bill arrived right on time to greet the love of his life Jean for their 59th wedding anniversary. A beloved and respected member of the south Minneapolis community, Bill was a 1953 graduate of Roosevelt High School. He served as a US Marine from 1953-1956, including a year stationed in Korea. In 1961, Bill teamed up with his father-in-law Len Velander, to open the doors to Bill St. Mane Sporting Goods. In 1963 the store moved two blocks north to the corner of 28th Ave and 42nd Street. The family business grew to include Ve-Nel Lettering. Bill became known for his generosity and passionate support of youth sports, especially hockey. Through quiet acts of kindness he made playing sports possible for many young people. A devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Bill instilled life lessons by example. He shared and passed on his love of cabin life, fishing, pheasant hunting, bird watching, and baseball. A self-proclaimed "shy guy" with a wonderfully subtle sense of humor, Bill was quick with a smile and an encouraging word. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the many lives touched by his humility and kindness. Bill is survived by children Barry (Jody) St.Mane, Jill (Mike) Ramsey, and Bob (Christa) St.Mane. Grandchildren Danielle (Derek) Kent, Joe (Brandi) St. Mane, Rachel, Hannah, and Jack Ramsey, Blake and Morgan St.Mane, Great granddaughter Saylor Kent, sister Judy (Joe) Nowak, friend Jane Henry, sister-in law Janet Grobe, nieces and nephews. It was Bill's desire that in lieu of flowers donations in his memory focus on young people in the city. He embraced the mission and purpose of DinoMights Hockey In The Hood and partnered with them to create The Bill St. Mane Legacy Fund, to equip urban youth to develop physical, academic, social, and spiritual excellence. dinomights.com/… or Dinomights/Bill St.Mane Legacy Fund 3400 Park Ave. S.
