Obituary of Joseph Jukich

Joseph Jukich, of Esko, passed away at Interfaith Care Center, Carlton, after having spent the day with his wife and girls. He was 28 days shy of his 83rd birthday. Joe was born in Duluth, MN in 1934 to Mike and Mary Jukich. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1953 where he played basketball and football. He worked at the cement plant and U.S. Steel, until he retired. Above all, Joe enjoyed fishing. He also liked gardening, cutting wood, BBQ'uing, doing things on his property and spending time with his family. He attended various family members' sporting events as well as watching the Twins and Vikings. Joe had a knack for remembering sports facts. His family was amazed at his ability to remember and follow specific players and coaches throughout their careers. In 2015, Joe and his family enjoyed a road trip to So. Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Amelia Pletcher and brothers, Mike "Tego" and Richard. Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat; daughters, Deb (Tim) Tollefson, Karen (Robb Berry) Jukich and Patti (Brian) Petty; grandsons, Tim (Ashley) Tollefson, Dan Tollefson, Charlie Petty and Henry Petty; sisters, Dorothy Bubacz and Dolly Dimitri; brothers, Bill (Lois), Ted (Barbara) and Don (Shirley); many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pat and daughters would like to thank the staff at Essentia Hospice and the staff at Interfaith, especially the Maple Unit, for the wonderful care of Joe and us.
